Sinclair Lewis
If you haven’t read Sinclair Lewis – “It can’t happen here”,
you should.
It is the master plan that Donald Trump is using to advance
most of what Lewis wrote about.
The original copyright by Lewis was 1935, and it is just as
powerful today as it was then. This is
not a funny book, but an insightful one and also a very troubling one.
Today the political system in the country is mimicking all
the atrocious behavior and values that will make this country into the very
essence that Lewis’s book portrays and that is a very troubling thought.
Granted, the later part of the twenties century has been a
lead up to what Trump is doing, but now we are on the edge of a cliff with no
bridge to cross, to escape from the world view that in the past seventy years
has gotten us to this point.
It will be a great fall when this country goes over the edge
and falls totally into the open hands of the people that now control all branches
of our government and their vision of a corporate state that owns all the
wealth of this country for the benefit of the few and the disaster of the
eco-system.
I have no suggestion of how to work through this mess, but I
can assure you that the way we are going now is a branch of the long road of
history that will do nothing to advance the rights of those that have and will
struggled to over come the economic inequalities that are only getting more
pronounced day in and day out.
The people that run the corporate-capitalist-system that now
governs, has complete charge of all aspects of this government and they are
winning in a very big way at the expense of all of us.
There’s no hope that any change that will take place, but
only a bandage will be used on the mortal destructive wound that this country
is facing by the existing system.
The collapse almost happened in 2008, but the bailout of the
banking system along with the auto industry just delayed the collapse of this
country.
The whole system of checks and balances is gone, for the
wealthy took over both of the major political parties a long time ago and in
these past few decades there is no longer a path to fix it, because of payoffs
and corruption has infested the governing of this country and so the control of
the country is now in the hands out side of the national political process.
In fact I don’t think it can be fixed.
All systems of communications are now in the hands of very
skillful, talented and very deceitful political operative that have convinced a
good fraction of the country that black is white and good is bad and wrong is
right and that in most societies, is how great powers fall because of dishonest
politicians.
Today the history of this country is following in the footsteps
of so many past powers. It’s our turn to
collapse as we bankrupt our way into oblivion, as the spoils go to the
super-rich and they have no idea of the outcomes, to be.
